Månafossen Waterfall – Frafjord, Norway

A 92-metre waterfall reached by a short but steep trail from Eikeskog. A strong choice when you want an active day without committing to a long mountain hike.

Short does not mean flat.

The first section climbs steeply over stone and rock, with chains fitted at some of the steeper points. Wet rock changes the character of the trail quickly. Good footwear matters. If time allows, continuing towards the historic farm at Mån turns the waterfall stop into a fuller valley walk.

A natural road-and-hike day from Stavanger

Månafossen works well as part of a wider day through Frafjord and inland Rogaland. Rather than rushing out and back for one viewpoint, we can combine the walk with scenic roads and other local stops.

Who it suits

Guests who want some physical activity but do not want a four-to-ten-hour mountain hike. The steep start means it is still not a flat sightseeing walk.

LOCAL JUDGEMENT

Wet rock deserves respect.

The route is short enough to underestimate. Conditions, footwear and the group’s confidence on steep uneven ground are more important than the distance suggests.
