TROLLTUNGA · HARDANGER

Trolltunga – Hardanger, Norway

The rock ledge is the finish. The defining feature is the length of the mountain day: 20–27 km return at high elevation above Ringedalsvatnet.

The challenge is duration.

From P2 Skjeggedal, the round trip is about 27 km and normally takes 8–12 hours. Starting at P3 Mågelitopp reduces the route to about 20 km and 7–10 hours. Either way, pacing, food, clothing, daylight and weather all matter.

Part of a wider Norway journey

Trolltunga sits much farther from Stavanger than the Lysefjord hikes. It makes more sense as part of a multi-day Norway itinerary through Hardanger than as a rushed day trip from Southwest Norway.

Prepare for the whole day

The route is long enough that weather, daylight, food and steady pacing can matter more than any one steep section. Guests need to be comfortable spending a full day in mountain terrain.

PLANNING MATTERS

Do not build the day around the ledge alone.

The photograph is a few minutes of a much longer mountain experience. Good planning protects enough time and energy for the return, and places Trolltunga sensibly within the days before and after it.
