Private Flørli 4444 Hike: Boat, Guide and Transport
The world’s longest wooden staircase, hiked together.
Two police officers from California, one private day at Flørli 4444
Tom and Tori travelled from San Jose, California to Stavanger with a day at Flørli on the plan. Both are police officers, so there was an easy connection from the start.
It was a beautiful autumn day. We picked them up by boat and ran through Lysefjord to the pier at Flørli. From there they climbed the 4,444 steps and walked back down the mountain path. On the stairs, the pace was adjusted as we went, with short stops and time to take in the fjord below.
A boat then took them to a bay in Lysefjord, where a car drove them on to the airport. The point was not to race to the top. It was to make the whole day work well from pickup to departure, with the route, timing and support adapted to the two people in front of us.
What we arranged for Tom and Tori
A private fjord-and-mountain day by boat: pick-up by boat, the run through Lysefjord to the pier at Flørli, a guided climb up the 4,444 steps, the mountain path down, and a boat and car on to the airport.

Norway, stays with you.
It has been a while since Flørli 4444. We hope the memory of that staircase has stayed with you as clearly as it has with us.
Thank you for letting us be part of your journey through Ryfylke — we would love to help you plan the next one.
A Little Taste of Norway in San Jose
After Flørli, Tom went home to San Jose and back to his shift at the police department. A few weeks later, Gert put together a small box to send along with him — Kvikk Lunsj, the chocolate bar every Norwegian keeps in a backpack on the trail.
Tom handed the bars out at the station, and the photo came back within days: colleagues lined up by the patrol cars, each one holding a wrapper up to the camera.
Greetings from Norway to the San Jose Police Department. 🇳🇴
